Stereotypes/Characters

This is a list of stereotypes/characters that will feature in our opening sequence. On each steroetype we have done extensive research on how they are portrayed in TV shows which includes attitude and appearance. Along with an image, we have produced a summary of each character.

Nerd

The nerd will be unsociable and the least popular character of the show but will however be the most superior academically. The can also be shown as clumsy and very awkward. In TV shows they usually dressed very poorly, have glasses or braces, and an unstylish haircut. In our opening sequence, we could show the nerd with some work in his hand to show that he his smart and cares more about his grades than social status.

Bully/Badass

The bully or badass will think they are the coolest person in the school. They will have an extremely high ego and believe they are God’s gift. Usually the bully would be large and muscly with a moody look on their face. In terms of clothing, a badass would be shown wearing either a leather or denim jacket.

Popular's

The popular people would usually be a group of girls, maybe 3 or 4, who would walk around the school as if they own the place. They would be portrayed to be extremely bitchy and ignorant. They would care much more about their social status than their grades. In TV shows, they would be very glamorous and caked in makeup therefore very concerned in their appearance.

Sporty

The sporty will also be very popular and will usually be dating the popular girls put them right at the top of the social hierarchy. They will be shown as tough and strong as they would be going the gym, however the sporty person will be present as dumb or gullible so they won’t have a good way with words. In our opening sequence, we could show the ‘jock’ with a football or rugby ball in his hand to portray his sporting nature.

Chav

A chav, will be identified by their appearance and younger age as that is what makes them stand out. They do not wear the usual generic clothing as a chav will normally be in a tracksuit with trainers. They appear scruffy and also have an ineferior inteleect. They will have a bad attitude and may be violent due to their anti social behaviour which is usually emphasised in TV dramas.

Stereotypes In Our Product

In our product, we aim to use as many stereotypes possible to appeal to many audiences. We also found in our research that lots of childrens TV programmes have many stereotypes as it can lead to comedic moments. As we would put our TV programme in the comedy genre we feel many stereotypes would be beneficial. The main stereotype will be a nerd as we plan to have the programme revolve around a main character with 'nerdy' qualities. We aim for this to tie in with the title of our programme. We shall set auditions for each stereotype (bully, sporty, mean girls and chav) and the stereotypes we use will depend on if we can get the right cast.
